E. Setauket, NY, October 26, 2007) - Blooming Twig Books, in association with Big-n-Boo Productions has released both the audio and print versions of The Coach’s Son, the first novel by Jeffrey Hickey, son of the late former San Francisco 49er head coach Red Hickey. This frequently hilarious and unexpectedly moving coming of age tale explores growing up in a NFL family in the 1960’s, and offers a superstitious theory as to why it took the Dallas Cowboys so long to win their first Super Bowl. Finally, it looks into the future of professional football, and perhaps all sports, with an unflinching honest assessment of American culture. This book is a must read for any grown-up sports fan.

Jeffrey Hickey brings knowledge and credibility to The Coach’s Son. His father was legendary football pioneer Howard “Red” Hickey, head coach of the San Francisco 49ers from 1959-1963. Red Hickey invented the shotgun formation and was also the chief talent scout for the Dallas Cowboys for over 20 years.

In the unabridged audio version, Hickey delights the listener with many voices, playing all but one of the characters. Hickey might just be America’s finest author/reader since Jean Shepherd. He goes seamlessly from character to character, at times creating absurd ballets of vocal interplay.

This tale of family, football, faith, and best friends is as profound as it is profane, as sensitive as it is scathing, as spiritually deep as it is damning.

Reader Linda Govednik writes, “I have never laughed harder, or been more captured by the uniquely gifted boy who encompasses this tale. Hickey equipoise’s his threads of fact, fiction and football into a tapestry that creates a spiritual joy never before experienced literarily.”

Yazmin Khan, an audience member at the debut reading writes, “The story is so rich with juicy character stuff, and his reading of it was pure magic. I was taken to another place.”

Jeffrey Hickey is an author, composer, performing artist, teacher, coach, father of twins and arguably the happiest married man on the planet. His previously published works include a book and audio recording, Wages Creek, and a CD of stories with music, Bats and Bones, both of which garnered great critical notice.
