DENVER, October 28, 2007 – Last year it was 100 bikes for 100 kids and the chance to learn the fine points of cycling from an Olympic Gold medallist. This year the Dalbey Education Institute (DEI) gave the gift of knowledge and the power of self-confidence to more than 8,000 at-risk children in the metro Denver area by sponsoring the Education and Career Development programs with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver.

During the sponsorship launch event, Russ Dalbey, CEO of Dalbey Education Institute passed on powerful messages to the children, urging them to commit to “being the best you that you can be” and sharing how he had climbed out of poverty to become an Olympic level cyclist and successful entrepreneur.

“By setting goals and pursuing them relentlessly you can achieve anything,” he told the assembled kids at the Denver Broncos Chapter, located at 4397 Crown Blvd. in Denver.

“I want these kids to grow up with the most important lesson in life and one they won’t learn in school: how to think in a way to get what they want out of life,” said Dalbey. “The Boys & Girls Clubs teach these kids to think big, and they provide the skills for them to achieve their dreams and make a better life for themselves.”

“DEI’s sponsorship will help transform the lives of 8,000 children this year by providing them with the support they need to thrive, not just survive,” said Kathy Luna, CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver. “The Boys & Girls Clubs support children’s everyday development, and the new after school education support programs are designed to boost confidence, help with school work, support at-risk kids staying in school and teach the power of goal setting.”

In America today, one in four youth – 14.3 million children – are alone and unsupervised after school, making after school programs more important than ever before. After school programs like the Boys & Girls Clubs keep kids safe, help working families and inspire learning. They provide opportunities to help young people develop into successful adults.

“Alumni view their experiences with clubs as highly positive, critical to their successes, and for many, essential to their survival,” Luna added. “In fact, more than half of the Club alumni have stated that the Club really saved their life.”
