DATELINE: BRAINTREE, MASS…It’s time to team up and collect pledges for South Shore Elder Services’ annual “Stroll the Mall for Meals on Wheels” walkathon.

Every year, South Shore Elder Services holds a walkathon at South Shore Plaza in Braintree to raise money to provide hot, noontime meals on a daily basis to more than 1,000 homebound elders. This year’s “Stroll the Mall for Meals on Wheels” will be held on Sunday, November 11th, from 9 to 11 a.m. Walker registration begins at 8:30 a.m.

Gather your family, friends and co-workers together to walk and start collecting pledges now. Students who wish to participate can earn four Community Service Hours. More than 300 walkers of all ages participated in the 2006 walkathon.

Children who attend may enjoy making Thanksgiving cards for elders; coloring on magnets; meeting the walkathon’s mascot Sir Lunch-A-Lot and receiving a balloon animal made by one of the clowns. The first 200 children will receive a free dinosaur t-shirt.

Contact Susan at South Shore Elder Service to obtain a pledge sheet, (781) 848-3939 ext. 362.

“Meals on Wheels” are delivered Monday through Friday to elders in communities served by SSES: Braintree, Cohasset, Hingham, Holbrook, Hull, Milton, Norwell, Quincy, Randolph, Scituate and Weymouth.
