Glen Ellyn Teens Compete In Apple’s Insomnia Film Festival
(
PRLEAP.COM) All Glenbard West Juniors Adam Flugel, Nate Sivak and Peter Carey had to do was follow Apple’s simple directions; write, cast, shoot, edit, score, and upload an original 3-minute masterpiece” within 24 hours of receiving a “top-secret list of elements, special props, dialogue and settings.” No problem, right? Not for these aspiring filmmakers who were able to meet the requirements and are now competing in Apple’s Insomnia Film Festival.
Making movies is an activity the three young men have undertaken since their days as classmates at Hadley Junior High. They jointly formed their own film and production company, Myronic Studios, while in the 7th grade. According to Carey, “we have always been the imaginative types. We have so many ideas, and we wanted to have our very own creative outlet.” The Insomnia competition continues their creative expression.
Winners of the web-wide festival will be determined via a carefully structured process of elimination. Famous Hollywood directors, Barry Sonnefeld, James Mangold, and Nora Ephron will judge the 25 highest on-line vote getters. The winning production ‘team’ will each receive a MacBook Pro laptop loaded with professional grade film editing software, all compliments of Apple.
The original Myronic Studios entry called “Attunement” features Adam Flugel on screen, while Sivak and Carey handle the camera and direction. Benet Academy senior Max Maude, composed the original score and performed the music for the film. The group elected to incorporate three items from the list of random Apple required film elements. They chose to weave into the film, ‘Dream Sequence’, ‘Radio Static’ and ‘Dutch Angle’.
Pre-production began when Apple released the list at 8 AM Eastern time Saturday, October 13th. Their three minute ‘short’ had to be uploaded to the Apple website by 8 AM the next morning. The aspiring film trio tried to prepare in advance. “We set the entire weekend aside for the competition and felt sufficiently prepared to roll with anything that Apple threw at us,” said Peter Carey. Filming wrapped by 6 PM Saturday. Scoring, editing and post-production were completed 12 hours later, around 6 AM Sunday morning. When asked how he felt once the film was finally finished, Flugel said, “I honestly just fell asleep at that point. It was a huge relief ‘cause I could go to bed.” Insomnia indeed.
“Attunement” met all Apple Insomnia Film Festival requirements. Fans can view the movie and vote for their favorite production by logging on to
