US Flight Cancellations and Delays Rise in October '07

(PRLEAP.COM) Portland, Ore., USA – November 7, 2007 – FlightStats.com today released its monthly reports on US major airline carriers and North American airport performance for October 2007. The FlightStats review of the 41 Major US airlines’ performance for October 2007 shows a decline in performance compared to September ‘07.

* Overall on-time arrival performance was 77.45% among the 41 US major carriers compared to 81.25% in September ‘07 and 73.7% one year ago (Oct. ‘06)

* 8.75% of their flights were late by 16-30 minutes, 4.14% were very late (30-45 minutes) and 8.18% were excessively late (>45 minutes).

* Only 12 of the US major carriers performed at 80% on-time arrival or better in October compared to 28 in September

* Cancellation rates for October totaled 1.37% up from 1.25 % in September ‘07 and down slightly from October ‘06 figure of 1.43%.

Hawaiian Airlines - 94.26% on-time arrival
Aloha Airlines - 88.91%
Frontier Airlines - 83.63%
Southwest Airlines - 83.58%
Great Lakes Aviation - 83.54%
GoJet Airlines - 82.40%
Allegiant Air - 82.25%
PSA Airlines - 81.63%
Spirit Airlines - 80.95%
SkyWest Airlines - 80.52%

The 10 lowest performing US airlines include:

Comair - 74.29% on-time arrival
Colgan Air - 74.08%
Air Midwest - 73.76%
Midwest Airlines - 73.75%
Alaska Airlines - 69.50%
Virgin America - 68.44%
Piedmont Airlines - 67.97%
Air Wisconsin - 67.24%
Atlantic Southeast Airlines - 63.29%
Freedom Airlines - 61.32%

North American Airports – the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly:

* Salt Lake City(SLC), Cincinnati (CVG), Vancouver (YVR), George Bush (IAH), and Pierre Trudeau(YUL) airports were at the top of the performance lists for both arrivals and departures with better than 82% on-time performance.

* All three major New York airports (JFK, La Guardia and Newark) joined San Francisco (SFO) and Philadelphia at the bottom of the on-time arrival list with on-time arrival percentages ranging from 57%(La Guardia) to 67.6%(PHL).

* Passengers were most likely to experience late departures at Reagan (DCA), Sky Harbor (PHX), La Guardia (LGA), Philadelphia (PHL) and Douglas (CLT). Douglas (Charlotte) saw more than 30% of its flights delayed by 16-30 minutes, 11.6% delayed by 31-45 minutes, and 11.76% delayed by more than 45 minutes.

* Cancellations and excessively late departures(>45 minutes late) were most likely at Philadelphia (2.24%, 21.3%) and La Guardia (4.23%, 17.89%)

* The busiest airports, Atlanta Hartsfield and O’Hare, had on-time departure ratings of 74.24% and 75.25% respectively down from their September numbers of 75.6% and 77.1%.

* Overall, the top 40 North American airports tallied a 75.14% on-time departure rating (down from 79.53% in September) and on-time arrival rating of 76.64% (down from 80.54% in September).
