It’s well known that beginning a writing career is full of challenges; the main one is just reaching readers. So writer, Guy Cranswick, saw the Web as a medium of getting his writing to people, “I figured a direct route would be best, where I’d give away some stories was an effective way of building a writing career,” he said.

He recorded samples of his stories and posted it on various Bittorrent sites at the same time as distributing larger written samples on websites and also publishing the stories in a collection along with a novel, on Lulu.

Cranswick, who is a communications analyst, was fascinated by the reaction,” Of course the samples were free, but it’s part of the process – like browsing in a bookshop – of creating awareness, of having enough material for readers to browse through, to get to know the books”, he says.

The stories have been taken by people in English speaking countries, the US and Britain primarily, but also by downloaders in Bulgaria, Russia, Brazil, France and a handful of unexpected places.

As a result of this activity a reader has posted the review below:

“Guy Cranswick's recent collection of short stories 'CORPORATE' is at once lively, surreal, tender, evocative and always exquisitely crafted. Combining the genteel finesse and sophistication of a true literary master with the grist of raw lived experience this guy really rocks. Watch this space, this Guy's going places.”
