Metropolitan Pima Alliance Honors Common Ground Award Winners

The Metropolitan Pima Alliance (MPA) honored 10 Metropolitan Pima County projects and processes for their outstanding collaboration, partnerships and leadership at the third annual Common Ground Celebration held at the Marriott University Park Hotel on November 2, 2007.

Additionally, Awards of Distinction were presented to the PGA Accenture Match Play Golf Tournament, Pima County Joint Technological Education District and the Tucson Regional Town Hall.

“Every Board member was extremely impressed with the quality of the nominations we received,” said Terry Klipp, president of the MPA Board of Directors. “We were thrilled to see such wonderful examples of collaboration occurring in metropolitan Pima County among such diverse groups to help promote sound community planning solutions.”

Prior to the event, MPA collected nominations from throughout the community. The Board of Directors reviewed the nominations looking for extraordinary collaborative efforts that extended beyond normal compromise to achieve a positive community result. MPA selected 32 finalist projects and 10 received Common Ground Awards.

The Common Ground award categories included architecture; archeology/historic preservation; commercial/mixed use projects; economic development; events, programs and studies; open space; public policy; public projects; public works and infrastructure; and residential projects.
