Learning Light advises the UK’s public sector on innovation and increasing productivity

Learning Light (LL), a non-profit organisation which focuses on integrating systems and aligning learning and people development programmes to meet strategic business goals, is running a workshop at the Public Sector Skills Conference at the QEII Conference Centre, in London, on 3rd December.

The LL workshop deals with innovation and increasing productivity. LL’s CEO, Mark Pittaway commented: “Innovation can transform an organisation.

“To meet the challenges and successfully embed the change, we need to engage our workforce and develop the right skills. Learning Light’s interactive session will explore what needs to be considered and how to implement a learning and performance ‘action plan’ to support that transformation.”

In addition, visitors to LL’s exhibition stand (Stand K) at the event will receive a complimentary copy of LL’s ‘Quick Guide to Skills Action Planning'. Conference delegates can also sign up for a free ‘Skills Actions Planning: Getting Started’ workshop.

“In particular, we're hoping to talk to those who need to improve the abilities of their workforce and are seeking expert advice on how this can be implemented.” commented LL’s Jenny Pang.

The conference has been prompted by the three-year deadline to improve the abilities of their entire workforce set for public sector employers by former CBI chief, Sir Digby Jones - who was appointed the Government’s first ‘Skills Envoy’ following the publication of the Leitch Review of Britain’s long-term skills needs.

According to Sir Digby: “You’ve got three years to start training. If you don’t do it, do it. If you do do it, do it better.”

Skills Secretary John Denham has recently stated that: “The Government has accepted the ambitious challenge to become a world leader in skills, and we are committed to achieving this.”

The Public Sector Skills Conference aims to equip delegates with the knowledge that will enable them to not only address basic skills deficiencies within the public sector, but also to improve all skills, through to higher education level. Delegates will be drawn from all areas of public service, primarily at practitioner, managerial and director levels and from those with particular responsibility for HR, training and development, diversity, CPD, succession planning, leadership, CSR, workforce planning, recruitment and related disciplines.

In addition to the LL workshop on innovation and increasing productivity, the breakout sessions will cover: assessing future skills needs; careers in the public sector; coaching and mentoring; developing managers; e-learning; excellence in managing customer relationships; foundation degrees: building skills pathways; HR; front line leadership; organisational effectiveness starts with the individual; sharing learning across the public sector; succession planning; trade union partners / learning partnerships at work, and using skills audits to drive organisational change.
