Local Company Creates Cards to Help Special Needs Families

(PRLEAP.COM) Burlington based company Parlor Rugby Social Stationery, is taking the spirit of giving to heart this holiday season. 100% of the profits from the company’s line of holiday cards will be donated to Vermont Parent Information Center’s Family Scholarship Program.

Vermont Parent Information Center (VPIC) helps families of children with special needs learn to advocate for their child’s education and quality of life, through a number of programs. The Family Scholarship Program provides families funds to attend specialized conferences and camps, or to pay for equipment or services their child needs. VPIC receives requests for funds often, and the parents who have been funded can’t say enough about the difference the program has made in their lives. "… we can hear in her voice that her self esteem is improving, and the way she talks about her severe disability in reading is more positive- and realistic. Thank you so much for helping (my daughter) go to such a special, positive place for teenagers with dyslexia," says one parent, from Washington County who received funds from the scholarship program. The scholarship program depends on donations, and currently has no funds available to parents in need. To learn more about VPIC’s other programs, visit them on the web at www.vtpic.com.

Parlor Rugby chose VPIC as the target of their giving because of a personal connection. "As a young person with Attention Deficit Disorder, VPIC helped me find the resources I needed to get organized, and gave me the confidence I would need to start my own company," said Parlor Rugby co-founder, Jill Kilpatrick. Kilpatrick joins the growing ranks of company founders, such as Jet Blue’s David Neeleman, who feel their ADD gives them an advantage by thinking differently about the problems of their industry. "In the midst of all the chaos in your mind… your brain just thinks a little bit differently," Neelman has said.

Parlor Rugby specializes in hand screen-printed wedding invitations, announcements, and personalized stationery. "The wedding invitation business slows down at the holidays, but picks right back up after the New Year. This is the perfect time to give back to the community," said Matt Malenczak, Parlor Rugby co-founder. The company will offer a line of four hand screen-printed designs available in sets of twelve cards for $30. There will also be a line of four full color flat printed cards available in sets of twelve for $20. The cards will come with a receipt for the tax-deductible amount. The cards are for sale via the company’s website
