Hampshire, November 2007: Nephria and the Five Stars Scanner Appeal will be teaming up with Ambassadors Samia Smith of Coronation Street and the Premiership’s most glittering star, Ryan Giggs OBE, to help raise £1 Million to provide a much needed replacement MRI scanner for the New Manchester Children’s Hospital. Along with other Ambassadors and Patrons, including Richard O’Brien, Max Beesley, Chris Bisson, Mark Owen of Take That, Lee Sharpe and Sir Alex Ferguson OBE, they have been working tirelessly and lending their support to the Appeal.

Corrie star Samia Smith will act as host for her annual Ladies Lunch and Fashion Show in aid of the Appeal. She promises an explosion of colour and vibrant music, which will bring some Brazilian sunshine and a samba beat to the Mere Golf and Country Club, Cheshire, on Wednesday 21 November 2007. She will be joined by many of her show business friends, including other Coronation Street stars, friends and family of Manchester United and many local celebrities. Over 460 ladies will be attending the event, which is traditionally regarded as the beginning of the Christmas festivities in the north west of England.

Charmaine Owen, Appeals Director, said “The MRI scanner is a phenomenal piece of equipment, which will help children from across the UK. Its improved effectiveness over the current scanner will dramatically reduce the treatment time, making it far less distressing for the children. Our Patrons and Ambassadors are absolutely fantastic, donating so much of their time and talent to help the Five Stars Appeal. Having friends like Andrew and Charlotte at Nephria will, of course, add to the fund raising effort.

Charlotte Newbert of Nephria added, “I am thrilled to be a part of the wonderful work done by Charmaine and her team. The MRI scanner will make a huge improvement in the treatment of suffering children and anything we can do to help is a sincere privilege.”

Charmaine continued, “With the new MRI scanner due in Spring 2009, we will be able to diagnose cancer and cancer related illnesses much earlier, enabling doctors to provide prompt treatment and ultimately saving children’s lives.”

The Wallness Children’s Charity began fundraising 30 years ago for the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital. The Charity was recently relaunched as the Five Stars Scanner Appeal. Through its pledge to raise £1million for a new MRI scanner, the Charity will make a major contribution to the quality of treatment for young patients. Working together with the New Children’s Hospital Appeal, they will help to provide the best equipment for diagnosis and treatment and accommodation for parents to stay close to their child during treatment.
