EXAIR’s New High Powered Cold Gun Replaces Mist Coolants for Dry Machining

(PRLEAP.COM) Cincinnati, OH —EXAIR Corporation has engineered a new High Powered Cold Gun for use in dry machining operations. This latest model cold gun has twice the cooling capacity of ordinary cold guns producing a 20°F stream of air that replaces hazardous chemical and mist coolant systems. Twice the cooling makes it possible to cool the part in less time. It also increases the number of applications to include those where an ordinary Cold Gun would not generate enough cooling. The high powered cold gun utilizes a vortex tube and an existing compressed air system.

The High Powered Cold Gun uses compressed air making it a low cost alternative to the more expensive mist and chemical coolant systems. It eliminates the ongoing costs associated with the purchase, filtration, clean up and disposal of liquid coolants as well as the worker health problems that can result from the breathing of airborne coolants or slipping on wet shop floors. Maintenance costs are also reduced because the cold gun does not have any moving parts that can break down.

The Cold Gun is ideal for industrial cooling during laser cutting, tool sharpening, drill and cutter grinding, milling, drilling, surface grinding, band sawing, plastic machining, plunge/form grinding and many other applications. The cold air flow prevents heat build up on tools and parts thereby extending the life of the tool and preventing part damage during machining. A flexible ball and socket hose that holds its position is used to direct the cold air to the point where the heat is generated and a magnetic base makes it portable and easy to mount.

The Cold Gun is designed to use full line pressure of 80-100 PSIG (5.5-6.9 BAR) and gives instant cold air when compressed air is supplied. Cycling on and off is another cost reducing recommendation. Temperature drop and flow are reduced when lower input pressures are applied. The use of clean, filtered air is essential to the operation of the Cold Gun. A manual drain filter that removes moisture, dirt and other particulates from the compressed air is included with each Cold Gun System. It is also quiet, only 70dBA.
