BALTIMORE – Downtown Partnership of Baltimore and the Baltimore City Department of Recreation & Parks have chosen Baltimore artist Robert McClintock’s portrait of the Washington Monument for its 36th annual lighting celebration. McClintock’s artwork will be used in posters, advertisements and television ads used to promote the event, which marks the kick-off of the holiday season in Baltimore.

“The Washington Monument is one of the most historic landmarks in the city and one of my personal favorites, so it’s a great compliment to be part of the celebration,” said McClintock. “Many people don’t realize that lights not only mark the holidays, but are there to honor the memory of city firefighters and police officers lost in the line of duty.”

McClintock has long been a supporter of Baltimore’s public safety community and recently premiered a collection of firehouse and fire scene images at his Fells Point gallery. Sales of “In the Jump Seat” benefit Box 414 and the Baltimore City smoke detector fund.

“The Monument Lighting is a cherished holiday tradition and Robert McClintock is a natural choice to help commemorate this year’s celebration," said David Carrodine, vice president of marketing for Downtown Partnership. “A modern chronicler of Baltimore life, Robert’s artwork captures in vivid detail what’s wonderful about the city.”

“A Monumental Occasion” takes place Thursday, December 6 with pre-event festivities at 5:30p.m. in Mount Vernon. The ceremony begins at 6:00 p.m. with the official lighting at approximately 6:50 p.m. The evening includes performances, strolling entertainment, refreshments, and the official lighting by Mayor Sheila Dixon. The event ends with a colorful fireworks finale choreographed to music.

A Monumental Occasion is coordinated by Downtown Partnership of Baltimore in conjunction with the Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts and the Baltimore City Recreation and Parks.
