New Novel Tackles 21st Century Slave Trade

(PRLEAP.COM) Fresno, CA - Moved by the global issue of human trafficking, author Jesse Phimphila has released The Story of Zero with print-on-demand publishers Lulu.com and CreateSpace, an Amazon.com company.

The science fiction/fantasy novel was inspired by an article on The New York Times website, The 21st Century Slave Trade by Nicholas D. Kristof. In the novel, the main character saves a little girl from a brothel in the slave world. Freedom and love are recurring themes throughout the book.

In choosing the genre, the author says, "I think the situation is so absurd, so horrible, that the only way I could comprehend it was to escape. I didn’t choose science fiction, it just came out that way. The process was therapeutic."

In publishing the novel, Mr. Phimphila hopes to draw attention to the solution. "Really, I was inspired by freedom. Freedom comes from the inside first and foremost. If it’s not there, we will always have slavery."
