Africans in America Celebrate Black Consciousness at Happily Natural Day 2005

(Richmond, VA) The Universal Negro Improvement Association & African Communities League (UNIA-ACL) will present the Third Annual Happily Natural Day - A Celebration of Black Consciousness on Saturday, August 27th, 2005 in celebration of African Heritage Month. Sponsored by the UNIA-ACL Prosser Truth Division #456 & Reel Freedom Productions LLC, Happily Natural Day is a not for profit festival being held at Muhammad’s Mosque at 104 Cowardin Ave, Richmond, Virginia. Being held the last weekend in August; BLACK FREEDOM WEEKEND, satellite programming includes an Ancestral Libation Ceremony to be held at Nubian Village Academy on Friday, August 26th 2005 at 6pm to give honor & praise to those who came become us and a Raising Black Consciousness Seminar to be held at the Black History Museum & Cultural Center of Virginia on Sunday August 28th featuring pro-conscious lectures from 2pm to 10pm.

Happily Natural Day is a means through which people of African descent can raise their collective consciousness & awareness by uniting in the effort to demolish the inferiority complexes that have developed throughout the African Diaspora due to our ever-present war with the ideology of white supremacy. It is also an opportunity for other cultural groups to be enlightened. Happily Natural Day is a celebration of black consciousness whose main purpose is promoting the importance of raising black consciousness and African awareness throughout the Black Diaspora to combat the debilitating psychological effects of the white supremacy on African people worldwide. Happily Natural Day is designed to do away with the damaging mindsets that have been created by conformity, assimilation and acceptance of and to the tenets of white supremacy in the United States and abroad.

Join us for a three-day lecture series with emphasis on black consciousness, natural hair care and holistic health, spoken word poetry, hip-hop, and neo-soul edutainment with a vendor marketplace. Special guests include Del Jones - The War Correspondent, Reverend Phil Valentine - Metaphysical scholar and founder of the Temple of the Healing Spirit, Malaika Cooper - founder of the Baltimore Natural Haircare Expo, Yvette Smalls- Director of the Independent film Hair Stories, Linda Jones founder of A Nappy Hair Affair, musical guest neo-soul vocalist Afi plus many more special guests all geared toward black liberation.
