Flutist Peter H. Bloom and Guitarist Mark Leighton to Perform at Thomas Crane Library, Quincy, MA

Bloom (flute, alto flute and bass flute) and Mark Leighton (guitar) and will perform Suites, Sonatas and Standards, featuring chamber music by European and South American composers and jazz standards from the Great American Songbook, on Sunday, January 13, 2008 at 3:00 pm, Thomas Crane Library, 40 Washington St, Quincy, MA. The program will include Grand Duo for Flute and Guitar by Mauro Giuliani; music of French masters Francis Poulenc and Jacques Ibert, Iberian composer Isaac Albéniz, and Brazilian Heitor Villa-Lobos; and treasures from the Great American Songbook by George Gershwin and others.

Praised for their versatility and wide-ranging repertoire, Bloom and Leighton have performed together for 20 years in venues across New England.

Flutist Peter H. Bloom tours nationally with classical and jazz ensembles and appears on more than 25 CDs from Sony Classical, Newport Classic, Dorian, Leo, and others. His recordings range from music of Shakespeare’s plays to music of the American Civil War (visit Americas Musicworks http://www.americasmusicworks.com).

Bloom has given solo recitals from Boston’s Jordan Hall to Beverly Hills; has appeared with groups such as Ensemble Chaconne, Olmsted Ensemble and Aardvark Jazz Orchestra (35th season); serves as historical consultant to Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts; has provided musical direction for The American Museum in Britain and The New-York Historical Society; and was a winner of the American Musicological Society’s Noah Greenberg Award.

Classical and jazz guitarist Mark Leighton performs across New England (Isabella Stuart Gardner Museum, King’s Chapel, Institute of Contemporary Art, Post Office Square Concerts, elsewhere). He is a member of Copley Chamber Players; serves on the Applied Music Faculty at Colby College; teaches at Eastern Nazarene College; and is Artistic Director of First Night Quincy.
