IntelliNet Technologies Develops Femtocell Gateway Controller for Major OEM

Melbourne, FL - (March 27, 2008) – IntelliNet Technologies, a leading provider of network convergence technology and solutions, today announced that it has successfully developed a femtocell gateway controller for a major network equipment provider to be used in their femtocell solution which is currently in trials with several operators worldwide.

The femtocell gateway controller is based on a flat architecture that consolidates the various elements of the Radio Network Controller (RNC) into a single unit, minimizing the complexity and much of the operating cost of a traditional network. Existing base station controllers are not capable of connecting to a large number of end points. They were designed to handle a cluster of cellular base stations, not the many thousands of femtocells that will be installed in homes. In order to keep the femtocell radio design lightweight and cost effective, the control had to be delegated to another network entity: the femtocell gateway controller. Having a flexible network access gateway controller provides the ability to offload intermediate processing, thereby making the radio side leaner and taking pressure off the core network.

“IntelliNet had the right technology components and the resources to develop the femtocell gateway controller in the required timeframe” said Anjan Ghosal, president and CEO of IntelliNet Technologies. “We were able to quickly leverage skilled resources, our core competencies in signaling/switching infrastructure elements and our Convero™ gateway technology to provide a timely and economic solution.”

The femtocell network architecture reduces CAPEX and OPEX by eliminating the need for the Radio Network Controller (RNC). The femtocell gateway controller is a key element of this architecture, providing the scalability for larger deployments and the connectivity to the existing core network.

“Scalability and reliability are obviously requirements for such a product,” added Mr. Ghosal. “IntelliNet built the gateway controller on our highly reliable and flexible Convero™ platform, on which we have delivered a number of network convergence solutions.”

The femtocell gateway controller is in field trials now and carrier launches of the service are expected before the end of 2008.
