Fort Worth Law Firm Laird & Cummings Warns About Road Damage Linked to Gas Drilling
(PRLEAP.COM) Fort Worth personal injury lawyers, Laird & Cummings, P.C., are warning drivers to be on the lookout for road damage caused by trucks and tractor-trailers involved in the gas drilling process.
Commissioners in Parker County, Texas, recently billed three gas companies more than $250,000 for road damage. Gas drilling companies reimbursed White County, Arkansas, more than $160,000 for road damage in 2007.
Fort Worth’s gas-drilling ordinance requires companies to put up bonds to pay for road damage. But the city hasn’t called in any of those bonds, saying it would be difficult to prove specific damage was caused by trucks used in gas drilling.
"Folks have enough to worry about when it comes to the dangers associated with gas drilling, most of which are unpredictable," says attorney John M. Cummings, partner in the Fort Worth, Texas law firm. "However, we know there will be road damage from all the trucks and tractor-trailers involved in the gas drilling process, and it is important that cities and counties hold those companies accountable."
Fort Worth has set up a task force to review several aspects of the gas well ordinance, including handling road damage. The task force plans to study the impact of drilling-related traffic on neighborhood streets, develop restrictions on traffic to prevent problems such as trucking accidents, and come up with a better way the city to be reimbursed for road damage.
