Australian-based publishers Images of Antarctica have attracted international acclaim by scooping the pool at this year’s World Calendar Awards. Awarded ‘Best in Show’, the 2008 calendar ‘Antarctica: Images from a frozen land’ won the calendar publishing industry's premier competition, recognizing the highest quality calendar design and production in the world. The 2008 calendar also picked up a gold medal in the hotly contested Wildlife and Animal category.

Judging was completed by the USA-based Calendar Marketing Association – the only worldwide trade association for the calendar industry. The competition received hundreds of entries from fifteen countries.

“This is a major achievement in an extremely competitive industry. We can really say we have the best calendar in the world,” said Andy Townsend, joint director of Images of Antarctica. “We are thrilled to showcase one of the world’s most incredible and awe-inspiring landscapes on an international stage.”

Winners were selected for the 2008 National and World Calendar Award competitions based on criteria such as quality of artwork, photography and graphics, readability and information quality and the originality of the calendar.

This win follows two other recent prizes awarded to Images of Antarctica. Photographers Alex Terauds, and co-director Lyn Irvine, were both awarded major prizes in the 2007 ANZANG Nature and Landscape Photographer of the Year competition. Images of Antarctica were also recognized in the recent Tasmanian Printing Industries Craftsmanship Awards, where the same calendar won a Gold Award in the 'Calendar - Printing' category.
