Amherst, NH–

WHAT: Ektron, Inc. announces that more than 200 government agencies have adopted its software solutions to improve citizen-centric delivery of online information and services. Ektron content management software streamlines the way information is created, edited, approved, published, organized, managed and reused, supporting Web-based strategies for citizens to obtain and submit certificates (marriage, birth, death, etc.), permits (building, transportation, etc.) and meeting agendas/minutes, as well as information about regulations, taxes, events, and more.

WHY: “Americans with Internet access are much more likely to contact the government than non-Internet users,” according to a May 24, 2004 report from the Pew Internet and American Life Project. “Fully 77% of Internet users – or 97 million Americans – have at some time gone online to search for information from government agencies or to communicate with them.”

WHO: Some Ektron government customers include: City and County of SanFrancisco, CA; City of Kissimmee, FL; County of DuPage, IL; City of Naperville, IL; County of Monroe, MI; City of Newark, NJ; City of Greenville, NC; Town of Frisco, CO; City of Montgomery, OH; Town of Weymouth, MA; and Ohio Department of Development. Ektron also powers sites for federal agencies and public sector organizations worldwide. Ektron’s partner base is growing among third-party firms doing government work.

HOW: "A CMS gives publishing infrastructure, workflow and authority to staff who better understand their own business, without sacrificing security. Ektron's CMS was a life-saver because I'm a Web team of one. Now, content editors across departments post their own updates — reducing time to publish,” says Karen Palagi, DuPage County's Webmaster. “I’ve shifted focus to improve site design, gather data from the public, and build Web applications. There are few viable competitors in this space. Ektron's proven model is followed by others in government, at a cost in line with public sector budgets."

Palagi reports significant benefits and cost-savings based on DuPage County, Illinois’ use of Ektron’s CMS for its public site, serving nearly one million citizens, and for its intranet, serving 2500 employees.
