ACOM Healthcare Business Division Establishes Medical Billing Service; Open to All Sectors of Healthcare Delivery Community
(
PRLEAP.COM) JACKSONVILLE, Florida, June 4, 2008 – ACOM’s Healthcare Business Division has established a HIPAA-compliant
medical billing service staffed with coding professionals holding multiple certifications, it was announced today by Division Vice President Gregory T. Church. “The new service was formed in response to a high volume of inquiries from our clientele in the chiropractic field, as well as professionals in other healthcare disciplines,” Church stated.
Open to practitioners in all sectors of the healthcare field, the new service is located at the Healthcare Business Division’s headquarters in Jacksonville. It uses ACOM’s RAPID EPM
practice management system as its automated billing engine and the Quantum Health Automation, Inc. clearing house for
electronic claims submissions. The service maintains a disaster recovery back-up capability at a sister office for enhanced security of doctors’ records.
“Our billing service is designed to get doctors paid fully, fairly and quickly and at an affordable cost,” Church said. “Our on-staff compliance officer and our professional coders are highly trained in the refinements of billing to assure that doctors are paid for everything they do; meanwhile maintaining strict compliance practices in order to expedite reimbursements and minimize delays, denials and audits.”
How it works
Doctors can submit their billing information in several ways. Those using ACOM’s RAPID Complete, RAPID EPM or RAPID EMR chiropractic software can transfer their treatment documentation directly to the billing service database. Others can scan their treatment documents and forward them by email; enable the billing service to dial in to their systems and download their data; or send hard copy documentation by fax or courier to ACOM, where it will be manually entered into the ACOM system.
Once ACOM receives the documentation, it is coded and reviewed, charges are posted and the billing file is sent electronically to the clearing house, which forwards it to the respective payer. Insurers remit directly to the doctor, along with an explanation of benefits (EOB). The doctor sends a copy of the EOB to ACOM, which then bills the patient for the unpaid balance. The service incorporates a process for use in the event that charges are denied, with denied claims automatically routed back to the coders for reexamination, correction and resubmission.
“Many doctors simply accept denials and move on,” Church said. “Using our medical billing service, most of these denials can be reversed, capturing otherwise unrecoverable revenue.”
What it costs
ACOM bills the doctor/clinic a percentage of collections on a scale descending from10 percent to 6 percent, based on monthly dollar volume. Initiating service entails a set-up fee of $500 or, if the client opts for the EPM billing module in order to submit treatment documentation electronically, $2,000. The set-up fee includes setting up the database, registering the client with the clearing house, software, and training. In lieu of software, ACOM provides a scanner. Courier charges remain a client expense.
Client doctors receive weekly reports on claims billed, dollar collections posted, claims denied/resubmitted, and aged accounts, as well as monthly summary reports.
“Doctors in every healthcare discipline are faced with the need to streamline cash flow and manage fiscal tasks for which many are not properly trained,” Church said. “Our goal is to provide a premier service that would enable these professionals to off-load this burden in order to focus fully on their primary mission.”
