WIN Enterprises Offers Dual-Core AMD Opteron Processor-Based Embedded Designs with True 64-Bit Capability

WIN Enterprises, Inc., a leading designer and manufacturer of embedded controllers and platforms for OEMs, is pleased to announce the availability of dual-core designs featuring AMD Opteron™ processors and 64-bit technology.

High-end imaging, enterprise-class storage, and telecommunications infrastructure developers especially benefit from the reduced latency and speedy data transmission provided by Dual Core AMD64 technology. AMD’s Direct Connect Architecture vastly reduces computational bottlenecks because each core has direct access to physical memory and I/O controllers. Without increasing power or physical requirements, AMD’s dual-core technology enhances the capabilities of 1U, rack-mountable, and other small footprint designs.

“AMD’s true dual-core technology increases performance without requiring more power or a larger footprint,” said Chiman Patel, CEO and CTO of WIN Enterprises. “We designed our AMD Opteron processor-based EBX controller to support both single- and dual-core processors, as well as multiple processors via the stackable HyperTransport™ technology connector. AMD’s unmatched performance-per-watt is a key selling-point for customers who are also concerned with thermal and physical limitations – which are common requirements in the embedded industry.”

MB-06047, WIN Enterprises’ AMD Opteron processor-based reference design with an EBX form factor, is available with both single- and dual-core processors. Featuring a 16-lane PCI Express slot, a stackable HyperTransport technology connector, ExpressCard socket, 4x SATA, CompactFlash socket, and Gigabit Ethernet, MB-06047 offers the latest functionality for developers and OEMs. Available with 64-bit Debian Linux or Windows XP Professional x64, among other board support packages (BSPs), MB-06047 is a powerful, compact controller that is ideal for even the most demanding applications.

“WIN Enterprises is one of the earliest adopters of the AMD Opteron processor in an embedded design and one of the first to incorporate true dual-core technology,” said David Rich, Director, 64-bit Embedded Markets at AMD. “Enterprise-class storage and telecom infrastructure are two areas that can experience a huge performance boost from AMD’s dual-core products. Dual-core technology can give even more computational performance, while continuing to keep latency low, help make bottlenecks almost non-existent and keep power consumption low.”
