Broken Fractal Ventures brings iTunes music to Linux

(PRLEAP.COM) Broken Fractal Ventures, Inc., a Belizean company, today announced the immediate and free availability of a GStreamer plugin dubbed "El Tunes" which provides the ability to play FairPlay DRMed music tracks purchased via Apple’s iTunes Music Store on the Linux Operating System. The product does not strip DRM from the file, but rather acts as an unofficial FairPlay implementation on Linux.

"We [Broken Fractal Ventures] respect and even value the proposition of using DRM as a means by which to protect one’s intellectual property, but we also highly value interoperability in the market place," said CEO Jason Radolec.

While El Tunes is freely available to users of the Linux Operating System on their desktop and laptop computers, Broken Fractal Ventures has used a small piece of DRM software themselves to prevent its use on mobile devices.

"While Linux may very well one day become a major player on the desktop, we feel its greatest potential is in the mobile space, and that is where we plan to focus," said Jason. "El Tunes is the first of many projects we have planned for the mobile realm."

No specific details were provided as to their plans for future applications, but Broken Fractal Ventures plans to provide games, productivity applications, and multimedia applications for various mobile devices.
