CaringBridge Bridges Communication Between Ailing and Family
(
PRLEAP.COM) Saint Paul, Minn. August 10, 2008 – It can be difficult to share information with family and friends when you or one of your children is gravely ill, but CaringBridge has found a way for families to be able to give information without putting the ailing family member under any more stress.
According to a feature in the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal, CaringBridge was born in 1997, on the same day founder Sona Mehring’s friend delivered a premature baby. In order to lend emotional support to the family, Mehring launched a Web site to help family and friends of her friend stay connected throughout the crisis. This led to the idea of having free websites for other families who want to keep their dear ones connected without putting stress on themselves. Now, CaringBridge launches such a site every eight minutes.
Since its conception, CaringBridge has nearly doubled in size every year since its founding. By the end of next year, CaringBridge’s CEO, Sona Mehring, expects to grow her staff of 29 to 60 and is projecting revenue will reach $5 million, which will put her company’s revenue up from $3 million last year.
CaringBridge allows families struggling with health problems to create personalized Web sites for free. Users can post journal entries online, and readers can respond to updates via a guest book. CaringBridge aims to provide comfort via the Web by allowing families to stay connected while saving them the pain and inconvenience of relaying bad news over multiple phone calls to family and friends.
