Homeless People Receive Homemade Hats

(PRLEAP.COM) Native Tulsa woman crochets hats and donates them to the homeless people at the Tulsa Day Center for the Homeless in Oklahoma. This coming winter will be Linda Deal’s fourth year of making two trips per year to the Day Center and donating the warm hats she makes. Well over 300 hundred hats have been given away so far.

Mrs. Deal has been making crocheted items for 37 years. Since her family members have all the handmade hats, blankets and pillows they can use, Linda had to find a new outlet for her handiwork. "I don’t really remember how I came up with the idea," she says. She just started making a bunch of hats and showed up at the Day Center to see if anyone wanted them. "They went so fast and the people were so happy and grateful to get them, I went back home and made more hats."

Linda says she is still making hats as fast as she can, but is ready to admit that she needs help. There are so many homeless people needing hats, scarves and gloves that she has started a website: http://www.hatsforhomeless.com to accept donations of yarn, hats, scarves or gloves. You, too, can help keep the homeless a little warmer this winter. You can also mail your yarn or new or gently-used hats, scarves or gloves to:

For the first trip of the cold season Linda goes in October on "Make A Difference Day." This year that day comes on October 25th. Her second seasonal trip is usually a few days before Christmas. These hats are the only Christmas gift most of these people will receive.
