Women's Inter-Cultural Exchange Featured in Charlotte Business Journal
(
PRLEAP.COM) Charlotte, NC - August 20, 2008 – Stephanie Counts, co-owner of Women’s Inter-Cultural Exchange (WIE) was recently featured in the Charlotte Business Journal for her work with uniting women of different races and ethnic backgrounds. The weekly journal provides the latest breaking Charlotte business news, resources, events, careers and marketplace.
The article titled "Building bridges that will make a better community" explains why she and co-founder Dee Dixon created the non-profit. Counts had a dream to build a bridge across the divide of race, ethnicity and culture. "Supported by grants from local companies, the organization provides a forum for the women to focus on their common goals and build social trust through networking," wrote Charlotte Business Journal staff writer Roberta Fuchs.
The article also said that during 2007, the organization’s events and newsletters attracted more than 3,000 women, which was up 50 percent from 2006. Corporate donations also increased by 100 percent from 2006, which included sponsorships and partnerships with local companies, nonprofits and educational institutions.
Last year, WIE partnered with Working Mother Media to present a town hall meeting to provide a platform for female executives, academics and public policy experts to discus the importance of racial and ethnic identity, the barriers that women of color face and strategies to develop corporate cultures where women can succeed in.
