The article titled "Customizing golf" profiles Hamm and how he became involved in the golf industry. Dave carries drivers, irons, wedges, putters and even some woods made of real wood at his professional golf shop. "Hamm has operated the business full time for about nine years now, and while most people think it’s just a part-time endeavor because he’s only open 24 hours a week," wrote staff writer Paul Hines. "He spends his non-open hours assembling clubs."
A major portion of Hamm’s business is the custom club assembling. He also repairs, regrips, reshafts and can shorten and lengthen clubs on request. Hamm got his start in the business in 1995 when the new Big Bertha clubs were available, but weren’t constructed for left-handers.
During the golf season, Hamm does as many as six to eight repairs each day for his customers. Dave’s Custom Clubs is also stationed need a 500-yard driving range.
