(PRLEAP.COM) August 28, 2008 - DENVER, CO — A celebration event next month will mark five years of dramatic growth in Colorado’s green building community as well as in the Colorado Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).

"It’s hard to believe we’re only five years old," said Deb Kleinman, Executive Director of the Colorado Chapter of USGBC. "Today, we are headquartered in a historic building in downtown Denver, and our professional full time staff has increased by 400 percent in the past year. Our state has grown to be a leader in sustainable building practices, and we have a lot to celebrate. We look forward to the future of green building here in Denver as well as the entire state."

The five year celebration is open to the public and will take place the evening of September 12 at the Seawell Ballroom at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts. Edward Mazria, founder and executive director of Architecture 2030 is the keynote speaker. Mazria will address Chapter members and friends about his program to reduce emissions in the built environment.

The USGBC coordinates the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) green building certification program. Colorado has had many LEED "firsts" in the country, including the first LEED hospital, Existing Building, and law school. Today, the state also boasts:
