HTW Tire & Auto: A Small Company with Big Service

(PRLEAP.COM) Gary, Indiana- August 30, 2008 - Donell Hargro may only be one man, but he has quite a few plans for HTW Tire & Auto, his new business. As the head technician and CEO of the company, Hargro specializes in almost every area of automotive maintenance.

"We do everything from brakes, tune-ups, transmission, engine replacement, front-end and air conditioning to selling new or used tires," said Hargro.

The company may be new, but the owner as well as the mechanics hired, are far from amateurs. Many businesses have to prove themselves in the earlier stages, but Hargro already had steady cliental due to being in the car repair business for more than 30 years. Prior to his new position, Hargro worked for an auto company that was not his own. Although he had a passion for fixing cars, he was not so passionate about being told what to do from someone that diagnosed a vehicle by simply "looking" at it. Hargro decided the only way he could provide the best service possible is if he made his own decisions, hence- HTW Tire & Auto.

Word spread that Mr. Hargro was leaving his employer to start his own auto shop, and when the business first opened up in June, it was a one man show. "It was a Saturday and I was the only person in the shop," he said. However, the lack of help was not going to stop Mr. Hargro and apparently his customers felt the same way.

"The first day I opened, I grossed $1500.00 in profit." Hargro said. He attributes this day to being one of his proudest moments as CEO of HTW Tire & Auto.

Growing rapidly, Hargro has already been able to hire three mechanics due to cliental loyalty. "I had a lady here in Gary on vacation, but she lived in Texas. While here, the car she had needed some work. I was honest with her and gave her a fair price. When her car broke down again in Texas, she towed the car to me here in Indiana." Hargro said.

HTW Tire & Auto specializes in newer and older cars and the new owner says that must be taken into consideration when bringing on board new mechanics. "I only hire those that would fix a car the way I would do it." He emphasized. Although Hargro has help now, he stated no car may leave his lot until it has his stamp of approval.

"I don’t just let customers bring their cars to me and say, ‘Oh it stopped.’ I actually explain to them what’s wrong."

Hargro also said he is currently seeking to hire a fourth mechanic.
"I am very open to hiring kids studying automotives straight out of school," he said.

Hargro prides himself on being willing to stay in the loop no matter how technology may change the transportation system. He still takes classes on repairing newer model cars, and said that recent studiers are more likely to be familiar with later models as well.
