THE CITY OF ROCK'S GARAGE BAR COMES TO COLUMBUS AND BRINGS CHROME, HOT RODS, AMERICANA.

(COLUMBUS, OHIO), (SEPTEMBER 25, 2008) – With only weeks to go before America's coveted blue collar population swings its support to the Left or the Right, a Midwestern bar offers a unique opportunity for locals to drown their woes in booze, BBQ, and tater tots while swingin' out to the best of rock and roll. Columbus's Garage Bar opens with a draw of blue-collars, white-collars and no-collars.

Amidst the panic of rising fuel prices, it can be disconcerting to pop-a-squat at your local watering hole and realize that you're sitting next to a gas pump. But at The Garage Bar in the Arena District, Columbus, Ohio the pumps produce a commodity often more valuable than gasoline - $3.00 beers and an array of shots with names that would make most bikers blush.

Modeled after its sister location in the City of Rock (Ohio City, Cleveland, Ohio), the Garage Bar is geared toward all things Americana, with a large collection of what collectors call "automobilia" and "pertroliana." In the spotlight lies three reproduction gas pumps retrofitted into beer-dispensing systems, each pouring four ice-cold drafts.

The Garage Bar's open interior is awash with the color and chrome of the hot rods that emerged alongside rock-and-roll music, while tin Americana signs clutter red walls. A long bar features the colors Scarlet and Grey - a nod to OSU's Buckeye Pride.

While The Garage Bar is situated among the predominantly 'pop-hop' venues of Columbus's Arena District, patrons shouldn't expect more of the same; the bar transcends generation "pop" to promote a relaxed, neighborhood feel drawing a diverse crowd of blue collar, white collar, and no collar types.

Visitors can count on a rock-only electric jukebox to deliver a soundtrack of generational staples, ranging from Elvis and Johnny Cash to the Killers and The White Stripes. For those who prefer Def Leppard and AC/DC, the Garage Bar delivers a treat with 80s night every Friday. The bar has hosted several bands as well as rock DJs since opening in August and plans to increase their presence over time.

While many bars pride themselves on self-guided beer tours, the Garage Bar boasts a popular Shot Club promoting 25 A-list shots with R-rated names featured at the intoxicating price of just $4 each. The bar doesn't alienate the motor-oriented guys and gals who still prefer to knock back a cold one; the bar is proud to offer old-school canned beer at only two bucks a pop, with featured tall boys at three. Twelve taps offer a wide range of options at only $3.00 a pint.

"Rather than focus on happy hour, we try to pride ourselves on the notion that you can get a drink all day, every day, at a sweet price…no matter what time it is." believes owner Jeff Allison.

The Garage Bar, which had its soft opening in August, offers a food menu to match the hearty appetites of bikers, rock-and-rollers and white collars, alike, featuring Carolina-style barbecue, half-pound Angus burgers, slabs of ribs, and its featured finger food – tater tots.
To add to the ambience, a large, functioning garage door reveals a sprawling three season patio where party goers can enjoy a beer or bite with the wind in their hair.

The Garage Bar promises a unique experience with every visit, but gear heads, average Joe's, and all-around party goers are extended an invitation to see it first hand at the bar's grand opening party scheduled for October 2, 2008. For those who can't make it to the opening, two equally publicized bashes are scheduled for Halloween weekend, with a Hallow's Eve Devil's Night Out on Thursday, October 30, 2008 featuring Detroit's 'Twistin' Tarantulas' and an 80s-themed costume event on the 31st.

The Garage Bar is located at 147 Vine Street, Arena District, Columbus, in the former location of Adobe Gila's & Blues Station. Hours of Operation are Monday-Sunday from 4pm to 2:30am. Visit the Garage Bar Online at www.thegaragebar.net or on MySpace at www.myspace.com/visitthegaragebar
