Online Game Rentals and Weight Loss? Get Your Gamez challenges gamers to play their way to fitness
(
PRLEAP.COM) Gilbert, AZ, October 6, 2008, 2008: Get Your Gamez, an online video game rental service is calling on gamers to get up and get fit, and is rewarding them for doing so.
It is little news that recent statistics indicate teenage obesity has hit an all-time high, with 25% of young people between the ages of 12-21 reporting no vigorous physical activity nearly every day, but the team at Get Your Gamez is vowing to do something about it.
Tackling the problem of childhood obesity seems to some to be a conflict of interest for a retailer of video games. But Matt and Jackie Behm, owners of Get Your Gamez, an award-winning online video game rental service, disagree.
Jackie states, "We’re not just gamers – we’re also the parents of two young children. Gaming in moderation is a big part of our household. Gaming can be a fun, rewarding experience… but it’s not the only thing a child or teen should be indulging in every day."
Starting in October 2008, Get Your Gamez will be instituting their new Game/Life Rewards program. The program is designed in part to reward video game enthusiasts for partaking in activities that promote good health and fitness goals.
"The program is a natural extension of the kinds of activities that get kids up and moving," says Jackie. "What’s more, they can be tailored to the individual to help them stay on track and reach their goals. Get Your Gamez is proud to help families find new ways to stay active."
The Game/Life Rewards program helps gamers set fitness goals for themselves, and rewards gamers that reach them with free rental packages, coupons, sports games, and other fitness-related giveaways. Program members will be able to log their fitness goals on the GYG Blog, as well as verify their activity through screenshots of fitness-related games, such as Nintendo’s WiiFit. The staff at GYG will also participate by keeping a blog of their daily video game workouts and posting routines that can be used with Wii Sports, Dance Dance Revolution and WiiFit.
