1889 Books Reboots Internet Sensation "The Pig and the Box"

January 28, 2009 (PRLEAP.COM) Entertainment News
1889 Books today released the second edition of "The Pig and the Box", a children's picture book by Victoria author MCM, creator of the upcoming TV series "RollBots". Already a popular read on the Internet, the new version is available in bookstores worldwide. A free download is also available at the 1889 Books website.

Originally published in 2006, "The Pig and the Box" is a modern fable that explores how restricting freedoms with technology can backfire badly. It's about a pig named Pig who discovers a magic box that can replicate anything you put in it, so he devises a scheme to keep others from benefiting from his bounty. His plans soon fall prey to his own greed, and he risks losing his friends as things spiral out of control.

"It's a book as much for adults as it is for kids," said author MCM, "I think a lot of grown-ups forget how being a control freak can have unintended consequences. Especially media executives. With any luck, this will help them see what can go wrong."

Already translated into 15 languages by volunteers all over the world, "The Pig and the Box" has enjoyed incredible success online, having been downloaded over one million times since it was first launched. Its popularity is largely thanks to its permissive Creative Commons license, which all 1889's titles employ.

"The Pig and the Box" is available for download as a PDF at http://books.1889.ca, and from major retailers such as Amazon.com, Barnes and Noble, and Powell's Books. An eBook edition is also available direct from 1889 Books.

MCM lives in Victoria, BC, Canada. His animated series "RollBots" will premiere on YTV (Canada) and the CW4Kids (USA) on February 7. Next month, he will be releasing the third book in his SteamDuck Chronicles series, "Poke of the Titans".
