Ascent Scientific first to launch new water-soluble glutamate ligands

February 16, 2009 (PRLEAP.COM) Business News
Bristol, UK, February 16, 2009 - Ascent Scientific (www.ascentscientific.com) announced the launch of a range of new water-soluble glutamate ligands – a series of agonists and antagonists that previously have not been available in a water-soluble form. These latest additions to the Low-Cost-Ligand range will help neuroscientists working in the fields of learning, memory, epilepsy and neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson's Disease and Alzheimer's.

"Water is often the solvent of choice for researchers. However, many receptor ligands, particularly in the glutamate field, are hard to solubilise or they have to be dissolved in non-physiological solvents such as ethanol or DMSO." explained Steve Roome, Commercial Director.

"In response to customer feedback, our experienced chemistry team have worked on a number of standard, previously water-insoluble glutamate ligands and have re-formulated them into water-soluble versions. Ascent Scientific is proud to be the first life science supplier to make these exciting research tools commercially available to the scientific community."

The glutamate ligands that are now available in water-soluble form include Kynurenic acid sodium salt, DL-AP4 sodium salt, DL-AP5 sodium salt, 7-Chlorokynurenic acid sodium salt and more.
