Sacramento Observer Nominated for Best Black Newspaper at the Black Press All Stars Awards

For the past 40 years, the Sacramento Observer has been published weekly and aims to be one of the leading providers of content to Sacramento’s African American community.

The award that will be presented at the Black Press All Star Awards Luncheon and Onsite Media Clinic in Chicago, IL on September 16 as part of a three day event designed to attack the growing issue of newsroom diversity. Other nominees Include Amsterdam News, Arizona Informant, Houston Forward Times, Philadelphia Tribune, Pure News, Sacramento Observer and the St. Louis American newspapers. “We’re pleased to announce the nomination of Sacramento Observer newspaper for the Black Press All Stars Awards,” said DC Livers, managing editor for the Historical Black Press Foundation.

Ebony and JET magazine publisher, the late John H. Johnson, will also be honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award. The Chicago Defender will be presented with the Centennial Award plaque in honor of their 100th anniversary and Robert L. Johnson of BET will receive the Legacy Award. A special tribute will be presented in honor of Johnson and the late Ossie Davis, who was an avid supporter of the Black Press.
