Donations to Be Made by Tampa, FL Orthodontist

(PRLEAP.COM) April 4, 2009- TAMPA, FLORIDA – Tampa Invisalign specialist Dr. Hess will donate about $1,000 to several schools and non-profit organizations in the greater Tampa Bay area this month.

The donations are the result of money raised through services provided by a full-service nail salon in Hess’s orthodontic office, he said.

Hess recently donated to the Riverview High School baseball team’s Relay for Life event, and an additional 14 schools and local non-profit organizations will be the recipients of donations this month.

The top three schools slated to receive donations are Riverview High school, Randall Middle School in Lithia and Bloomingdale High School in Valrico. The Children’s Cancer Center in Tampa, The Spring of Tampa Bay, Inc., which is a domestic violence shelter and the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation are the top three non-profit organizations that will receive donations, Hess said.

Hess created the nail salon last year to provide complimentary pedicures, manicures and white and pink acrylic nails.

"We decided to do this as a way to say thank you to the parents of patients for choosing us as their children’s orthodontist in Tampa," he said.

The complimentary salon services are offered to parents when their child gets their braces put on. That process can take up to an hour and a half, so it gives the parents something to do while waiting.

If parents choose to utilize the nail salon during subsequent appointments and check-ups, they pay a fee for their salon service.

"We don’t want the nail salon to be an income-producing operation," Hess said. "So instead of pocketing the proceeds, we decided to do something for the community. Now parents who use the salon can choose a local school or charity to which the profits from their service will be donated."

Hess is happy with the amount of money his office is donating this month, but he looks forward to increasing donation amounts as more people learn about the spa, he said.

"I hope that as more people learn about what we’re doing with the proceeds, they will get onboard and take advantage of these services," he said. "They are not only getting a chance to have some pampering, but their contributing to worthy causes as well."
