CJD Aware! Nominates Dr. Pierluigi Gambetti To NORD's Rare Disease Hall Of Fame
(
PRLEAP.COM) This year CJD Aware!, a non-profit, online-information center based in New Orleans, Louisiana, joined NORD (National Organization for Rare Disorders) and other U.S. and international organizations to observe the United State’s first Rare Disease Day, February 28. This day spotlighted Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) and thousands of other rare diseases affecting the public. Part of the many activities included nominating researchers for a Rare Disease Hall of Fame to be published on NORD’s website. CJD Aware! nominated Dr. Gambetti for his vital research on prion disease. Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease is a prion disease, and a very rare, neurodegenerative [brain] disorder that is incurable and ultimately fatal. We invite our readers to visit NORD’s site:
http://www.rarediseases.org/rare_disease_day/Hall_of_Fame to find out more about Dr. Gambetti and his research.
CJD Aware! is also in the process of updating their website to include more information on Dr. Gambetti’s nomination. New information has already been added regarding UCSF (the University of California at San Francisco) who have expanded their CJD section; a Dementia clinic at Johns Hopkins Hospital headed by Dr. Brian Appleby and Dr. Chiadi Onyike; Dr. Appleby has also started a very informative CJD Blog. More pages to the CJD Aware! website will be forthcoming in the future. There are also CJD support groups being formed overseas, including, A.I.En.P., an Italian non-profit support association co-founded by Angela Chille. CJD support groups provide assistance to families internationally who are affected by this ‘silent killer’.
According to Ms. Chille, "..I believe that the worldwide network of organizations and associations can really make the difference". And so does CJD Aware!
