As the Economy Cools Down, Drive-To Vacations Heat Up

Holiday Group, one of the largest timeshare resale companies in the US, has added a Drive-To Vacation Page to its Web site, allowing visitors to type in their Zip Codes and find the timeshare resorts closest to their homes.

To fly or to drive—that is the question many vacationers are asking in these difficult economic times. Fuel prices are lower than they were last summer, but vacation budgets are still tight. As a result, more people are trading in their vacation wings for wheels.

Still, while it may be cheaper than flying, driving to a vacation destination hundreds of miles away is not always appealing. In response, Holiday Group, one of the largest timeshare resale companies in the US, has announced it has added a Drive-To Vacation Page to its Web site, allowing visitors to type in their Zip Codes and find the timeshare resorts closest to their homes. "Driving to your timeshare offers a lot more convenience and flexibility for vacationers, especially families," said Geoff Klein, Marketing Director for Holiday Group. "You can travel at your own pace, you don't have to deal with lost luggage or cramped airline seats, and you spend more time together with your family. It sure beats an at-home 'staycation.'"

Timeshare resales typically sell at a fraction of a retail timeshare, often up to 80% less than listed retail prices. Combine this with vacation resorts that are within driving distance, and resale timeshare becomes an appealing money-saving vacation alternative.

"Resale timeshares are fiscally attractive to vacationers who want luxury amenities but don't want to pay full-price for them," Klein said. "We've found that resales have remained very popular even during economically uncertain times."

Drive-to vacations offer more benefits than just cost savings. Road trips can enhance the vacation experience ("Getting there is half the fun"). You can plan your own itinerary, allowing for time to visit interesting sights along the way. And, of course, your luggage will be there when you arrive. Just be sure to include lots of games and activities if you're traveling with kids.

"It can be a great way to slow down the hectic pace of life," Klein noted, "instead of racing to the airport, dealing with long lines, and worrying about catching your flight. Even if you're driving to a resort only 90 miles away, it still gives you a chance to catch your breath and actually enjoy getting there."
