Newcastle, CA (July 16, 2009) Closeup photographers have a chance to win a high-end macro camera stand in a new photo contest that proves the old adage "little things mean a lot" true.

Dave Malby's TheCamStand.com is offering a CamStand SuperPro 30SE, valued at $349, as first prize in "The CamStand Macro Photography Contest", which will begin accepting submissions on July 10, 2009. The contest will stop accepting submissions on September 10 and plans to announce winners on September 14.

Malby, the CamStand's inventor, wanted to find a way to reward and showcase excellence in closeup photography. "Macro photography is a unique art form with a number of commercial and scientific applications," Malby explained. "Too often, I think people think of macro work exclusively in terms of whether the closeups helped sell jewelry or were valuable in a criminal investigation-the completely practical side of things. Those are important consideration, but we shouldn't lose track of the fact that great macro photos can be visually stunning, artistic creations".

Rene Curtis, part of the Kent Manufacturing team responsible for the hand-built CamStand, agreed. "We're excited to see what people are doing, the kind of art they're creating. We hope the CamStand contest brings a lot of great stuff out into the open-where it should be."

A three-judge panel will be responsible for evaluating submissions and for selecting five winners from the pool of entries. The overall champion will receive one of Malby's top-of-the-line camera stands. "We wanted to give people a strong incentive to enter, and I think a free SuperPro 30 SE fits that bill. It's a quality product that's received rave reviews and anyone with an interest in macro photography would be able to put it to good use."

The CamStand Macro Photography Contest is not charging an entry fee and all participating photographers will retain full copyright to their submissions.

TheCamStand.com will display submitted photos along with brief photographer-provided descriptions, giving anyone with an interest in closeups the opportunity to view the work.
