LateRooms.com can revel that holidaymakers jetting off to Spain this October will have the chance to attend one of Barcelona's most unusual and entertaining events. The ArtFutura festival is a celebration of digital culture and creativity and will be kicking off on October 29th, running until November 1st. In particular, ArtFutura is an event for those who would like to explore new media, digital animation, video games and interactive design.

The festival was established in 1990 and previous participants have included William Gibson, Theo Jansen, Laurie Anderson, Timothy Leary, Rebecca Allen and Brian Eno, as well as companies including Amorphic Robot Works, Pixar, Blast Theory and Arts Electronica.

Events will be held at the city's Auditorio Imagina and Arts Santa Monica, which are within easy reach of most Barcelona hotels. It is also worth having a look at the wide range of Madrid hotels, since the festival will take place in the capital as well.

ArtFutura celebrates its 20th birthday this year and the theme of the festival is 'from virtual reality to social networking'.

According to its organisers, the festival "has shown how, at the beginning of this new millennium, art and science are following parallel paths more than ever. It is now impossible to understand art separated from new media, internet and digital technology".

ArtFutura activities are also held in several other Spanish cities, including Alicante, Cadiz, Zaragoza, Gijon, Granada, Madrid, Murcia, Segovia and Valladolid.

Other creative events taking place in Barcelona this year include the Docupolis Film Festival, which gets underway on September 29th.
