Green Hive Foundation Announces New Executive Director

HERMOSA BEACH, CA (August 9, 2009) – The Green Hive, an integrated library, event center and marketplace designed to embrace, educate and promote sustainable design and building practices is pleased to announce and welcome to its team Monica Gilchrist as Executive Director, Green Hive foundation.

Gilchrist is a committed and experience leader in sustainability. With a background that straddles the non-profit and business worlds, she has professional experience both creating and implementing cutting edge green building and sustainable development programs, policies and projects.

On August 7, 2009, Gilchrist will speak on the topic of "Making Sense of the Green Programs" at San Diego's Indoor Air Quality Assoc.'s Workshop entitled "Green Healthy Building, What does that mean? Putting it all together." Gilchrist will provide information on "green" guidelines, standards and requirements issued by various governmental bodies that directly relate to your buildings, industry, clients, and how it can affect your bottom line. Topics covered: US Green Building Council's LEED program, US EPA Energy star rating system, National Home Builders Assoc., and American Lung Assoc. Healthy Home.

About Monica Gilchrist
A deep sense of ethics and a passion for creating buildings, communities and educational opportunities that protect the environment drive Monica's leadership of the Green Hive Foundation.

As Co-Founder and Co-Owner of green building consulting firm Eco Creative Solutions, Monica most recently worked in the for-profit sector providing green building and sustainability consulting services ranging from basic sustainability reporting to turn-key project fulfillment for new and existing buildings and operations.

Formerly, Gilchrist was the National Resource Center Coordinator for environmental non-profit Global Green USA, where she managed and assisted with everything from product displays and development of resource centers to event programming and delivery of green building advice to the community.

Monica has done extensive work developing municipal green building programs, and she's authored the Global Green publication "Developing Green Building Programs: A Step-By-Step Guide for Local Governments." Monica holds an MA in Urban Planning from the University of California, Los Angeles with an emphasis on Sustainable Development.
