Kicking off on November 12th, the Greenwich Early Music Festival and Exhibition features a diverse range of performers.

The four-day event takes place at the Old Royal Naval College and, as well as enjoying musical performances, those attending the festival will have the chance see an early music exhibitors fair, featuring over 100 international instrument makers.

Highlights of this year’s event include Susan Sheppard on the baroque cello, the Avison Ensemble and a performance by the Trinity College of Music Choir and Baroque Orchestra.

In addition, Rie Kosaka will be hosting a medieval harp concert, while The Warwickshire Waits will be taking to the stage of the Old Naval Chapel.

Established by royal charter in 1694 to provide support for seamen and their dependants, the Royal Naval College is an attraction steeped in history.

Throughout the 19th century the number of pensioners using the hospital facilities there declined and it was finally closed in 1869, before re-opening shortly after as a naval training centre for officers from around the world.

In 1998 however, the Royal Navy moved to its new base at Shrivenham and responsibility for the college passed to the Greenwich Foundation.
