MBF Health Insurance sends lucky Geelong footy fan to AFL Grand Final

Despite living in the heartland of the Brisbane Lions, Wayne Capell is a long-standing supporter of the Geelong Football Club. However, it appears Capell may unwittingly be more than just a mere fan, based on his footy team's success when he attends the AFL Grand Final.

In 2007, Geelong secured the AFL premiership, with Capell attending the hallowed MCG to cheer on his beloved Cats. Fast forward to the 2008 Grand Final, which Capell watched from home, and his team lost.

Therefore, you can imagine Capell's delight – and no doubt that of the Geelong football club – when he was plucked from more than 400,000 Queensland, Victorian and West Australian footy fans to attend the 2009 AFL Grand Final.

"I was absolutely thrilled when health insurance provider MBF, alerted me I had won tickets to the Grand Final. To say I was excited is an understatement," Capell said.

"I'm hoping Geelong can repeat their performance from 2007 and win the premiership again this year.

"Hopefully my presence will again prove lucky for Geelong, given their undefeated premiership record when I attend the game!"

MBF health insurance hosted the competition at home games of the Brisbane Lions, Hawthorn and Fremantle Football Clubs, who the company sponsors.

To enter, attendees simply had to text their details to go into the draw for a chance to win two premium seating tickets to the AFL Grand Final; as well as $1000 spending money, return airfares, three nights' accommodation, dinner for two at The Press Club on the Friday night and two tickets to the Grand Final lunch.

Capell entered the competition while watching his second favourite team, the Brisbane Lions, play Melbourne in Round 13 at the Gabba.

"I have supported Geelong since 1965, and my football heroes include Graham (Polly) Farmer and Gary Ablett (senior)," he said.

"However, I also started following the Brisbane Lions, or the Brisbane Bears as they were known then, when they entered the competition in 1987.

"And while in a perfect world I would have won tickets to a Lions versus Geelong AFL Grand Final, the fact that I can again watch my beloved Cats play off for the flag in Melbourne is phenomenal.

"I would like to thank MBF health insurance for this mind-boggling opportunity, which can only be made better when Geelong storm home on Saturday."

Capell will take his wife, Olwyn, with him to attend the game.

AFL Legend and MBF Business Development Manager, Peter Hudson, - who himself is a multiple premiership winner - said it was pure synchronicity that a Geelong supporter had won the prize.

"Given the number of people who entered the competition, it's an amazing coincidence that a supporter of one of the teams playing in the Grand Final won the prize," he said.

Hudson continued that MBF's AFL sponsorships aligned the health insurance company's long-term goal of helping people lead healthier, happier and longer lives

"What better way to encourage Queenslanders to lead a healthy lifestyle than by combining our passion for football and fitness," he said.

"And hopefully for Wayne, Geelong will get up on Saturday to make this prize as satisfying and enjoyable as it possibly can be."
