Snowbound Software Releases VirtualViewer Connector for IBM FileNet P8

(PRLEAP.COM) WATERTOWN, MA (October 13, 2009) – Snowbound Software, the pioneering leader of document viewing and conversion technology, today released a FileNet P8 Connector for VirtualViewer enabling it to be quickly and easily integrated with IBM FileNet P8. VirtualViewer is Snowbound’s high-speed document viewer and collaboration application. The connector, while enabling easy access to documents stored in FileNet, also permits VirtualViewer to access other repositories and file systems. This speeds and enhances workflow since the user does not have to learn or use multiple viewing applications to retrieve content from multiple sources.

"We chose to create a connector for our viewer to integrate with P8 rather than create a unique version of our application specific to P8 because it gives our customers greater flexibility," commented Chris Moynihan, product manager at Snowbound Software. "Some customers have multiple content management systems deployed throughout their organization or across departments and they want to utilize the same viewing application throughout. Utilizing the P8 connector in addition to the standard deployment of VirtualViewer allows the viewer to interface directly with P8 as well still being able to integrate and communicate directly with the other repositories or file systems."

VirtualViewer, which is available for both Java and .NET, supports a wide array of document formats including AFP, PDF, Word, Excel, HTML, TIFF, and more. Users can annotate, redact, and manipulate any format that is supported in the viewer without the need to invoke the creator application or to convert the file. To adhere to compliance mandates VirtualViewer by default creates all redactions and annotations in layers so that the original file is not altered. However if it is necessary to permanently redact the document stored on the server, the settings can be changed to enable that functionality. It supports the users’ permissions within the repository allowing only users with the appropriate clearance to view the version of the file without the redaction.

One of VirtualViewer’s distinguishing features is the ability for users to manipulate documents directly in the web-based viewer. Pages can be rotated, copied, inserted, deleted, and re-ordered. The viewer supports drop and drag functionality as well as contextual right-click mouse commands to perform any manipulation required. In addition it also supports Virtual Documents which allows pages from multiple sources to be pulled into a single virtual file enabling rapid access to specific and routinely viewed content.

George Farnham, vice president of sales at Snowbound Software added, "We have been working with IBM and their customers since 1996 to provide a variety of imaging, viewing, and conversion solutions. The P8 connector was a natural extension to our viewers so that we can make it even easier for our customers to get up and running quickly with our viewer and P8."

Snowbound Software is an approved IBM Advanced Business Partner as well as an IBM ECM ValueNet Partner.
