Open Mind offers an alternative to training courses

September 07, 2005 (PRLEAP.COM) Business News
Alun Harvey, managing director of Open Mind, the UK’s largest specialist learning resources distributor, will be revealing how to get more training for your money to delegates at the ‘Better People, Better Business’ exhibition, being held at the Novotel in Hammersmith on 29th November.

The exhibition is one of a series being organised at venues around the country by Business to Business Exhibitions. Focusing particularly on smaller businesses, these events bring together buyers and sellers from all types of business, allowing them to benchmark, network, have one-to-one sales meetings and also catch up on the latest business trends. The theme of the Hammersmith exhibition is that training your people – and yourself – results directly in improved business performance.

Harvey, who will be leading a seminar on ‘how not to waste money on training your staff’, commented: “Many businesses still think that sending someone on a training course is the only option, even though this is often prohibitive in terms of cost and time away from work. As a result, many people fail to get the training they need because they can’t be spared. Setting up an in-company training library of books, videos, DVDs and CD-ROMs not only costs less, the materials can be re-used by many people and at a time and place that suits the learner and the company.

The seminar will provide an overview of the complete training process from identifying the training need through to evaluating the results. “Having discovered these training needs – which must also relate to the goals of the organisation – you can put together a library of relevant learning resources to meet those needs”.

Open Mind can offer a choice of over 10,000 titles in all media from an increasing range of producers, supported by independent advice to help companies make best use of their training budget. That’s why over 600 organisations regularly come for advice and guidance to Open Mind.

“Business to Business Exhibitions has over 13 years experience of matching suppliers and buyers,” said Ian Heptonstall, managing director of Business to Business Exhibitions. “Indeed, our events have been compared to the business equivalent of ‘speed dating’!”
