Described by both Publishers Weekly and Kirkus reviews as "inspiring," the best seller The Elephant Whisperer: My Life with the Herd in the African Wild, is celebrating its publishing launch in the US this week.

Dubbed "The Indiana Jones of Conservation" by London's Guardian newspaper, world renowned conservationist, explorer and author Lawrence Anthony received international acclaim for his audacious rescue of the Baghdad Zoo during the coalition invasion of Iraq and, as a result of his experiences there, founded an environmental and conservation non-profit - The Earth Organization (TEO).

The Elephant Whisperer is his rich, true-life story, woven around the lives of a herd of wild elephant. Anthony agrees to resettle the troubled and traumatized on his Thula Thula game preserve in Zululand, South Africa. When they immediately smash the fences and escape into an area rife with waiting guns, Anthony decides to ignore the "experts" and go with his instincts in a desperate effort to establish a bond with the angry herd and save them from execution. He discovers they have a lot to teach him about life, loyalty, and freedom, and the relationship he has with them, to this day, is the stuff of legends.

The Elephant Whisperer is a slice of primal Africa, and the author entrances with tales of life in the wild. Encounters with poachers, crocodiles attacks, leopards, deadly snakes, and the dark side of Zulu witchcraft embroider this stirring, uplifting, narrative that will take its place amongst Africa's favorite stories.

"In my 35 years studying man/animal communication I have met only a few individuals who have the ability to enter into the metaphysical realm of the exotic animal Lawrence Anthony has been there and back.
