Summerville, SC, November 20, 2009 – Greenwood Communities and Resorts and The Ponds would like to extend a hearty "Welcome" to Boeing and its employees coming to the new North Charleston facility. The Ground Breaking on the new Boeing plant took place yesterday. "Boeing will be a tremendous asset for the Lowcountry," Said John Morgan, Project Manager for The Ponds, "and their presence will help lift our local Charleston economy out of the recession sooner than neighboring areas."

The Ponds is a 2000-acre master planned community located just 16 miles from the proposed new facility. We are excited to show new Boeing employees all the benefits of living at The Ponds" said Morgan, "We feel that this is an ideal location, especially for families, or people who enjoy fitness and nature". The Ponds has a 1000-acre nature conservancy set aside for preservation, with miles of nature trails. In addition, a new YMCA opened within the community this year, and has been active in hosting events, such as the first Youth Triathlon at The Ponds.

"We feel that The Ponds is a perfect fit for Boeing employees who may be considering a move to Charleston" said Morgan, "and we hope they'll consider The Ponds as well".

About The Ponds
The Ponds is a 1,950-acre master-planned community set between the town of Summerville and the Ashley River Historic District. The Ponds' residential offering includes custom homesites for Summerville new homes priced from the low $90s and single-family homes priced from the mid $200's. Several homes are now complete, and the first residents have moved in. Also complete is the first amenity complex, including a pool, outdoor pavilion, 11-acre multi-purpose field and a restored historic farmhouse. The first phase also includes a waterfront outdoor amphitheatre and several neighborhood parks. A 60-plus-mile sidewalk and trail system connecting to The Ponds' 1,100-acre nature preserve will be phased in as development progresses. An early part of the system, however, linking the community trail head at the restored farmhouse to hundreds of acres of woods, pastures and ponds, is complete and in service.
