LateRooms.com can announce that the Tonhalle in Dusseldorf will once again play host to the city's annual New Year Concert on January 1st.

Conductor Hubert Soudant will guide the audience through a programme of orchestral works and waltzes by Robert Schumann, Johann Strauss and Jacques Offenbach.

Every year the Dusseldorf Symphony Orchestra performs in the former planetarium on the banks of the River Rhine.

Strauss' Voices of Spring waltz is among the compositions being played, along with an extract from Offenback's operetta La Vie Parisienne and Schumann's New Year's Song.

The concert begins at 23:00 local time and follows an evening of other musical events.

People staying in Dusseldorf hotels may want to spend the beginning of their night listening to one of the two performances due to be given by the Romanian Philharmonic Orchestra.

"LateRooms anticipates heavy demand for hotels Dusseldorf due to the New Year Concert and recommends that people attending book their accommodation early," says LateRooms head of marketing Jess Reading.

Tickets for the concerts start at €13 (£11.70), with the first performance beginning at 16:00 local time and a second show starting at 19:30 local time before the main concert at 23:00 local time.

Dusseldorf's concert hall is renowned for its unusual design due to its former use as a planetarium. The domed shape of its roof is said to create "magnificent acoustics".
