Vancouver, British Columbia - December 31, 2009 - Looking to lose a few pounds in the new year? If you are looking to jumpstart a healthier you in 2010, miinus.org (www.miinus.org) invites you to step on a "Social Scale" (think bathroom scale 2.0), or to create one of your own. The Vancouver-based miinus.org invites you to visit their site, discover a fun way to utilize the web to lose excess weight, and help contribute to the company's mission of helping the world lose 12 million pounds by 2012.

"Our motto is 12-12," said Allen Chen, who started the Vancouver-based initiative. "miinus is a tiny .org on a mission to help the world lose 12 million pounds by 2012. It'll always be free for anyone who wants to lose and maintain weight, or anyone organizing such an effort."

Presently in beta format, miinus.org helps friends encourage and motivate each other by connecting their bathroom scales together to make new, Social Scales (see examples: http://www.miinus.org/scale/browse). Anyone can start a Social Scale with their coworkers, family and friends, and together, work towards health goals, learn tips from others who've had success, and have fun in the process.

Whenever beta users lose weight, not only are they achieving personal and group health goals, but every pound lost also contributes to the organization's overall 12-12 mission. The social scales provide an easy way to organize a weight management plan between family, friends, and coworkers.

"We know millions of North Americans have put losing weight as a top priority on their resolution lists and we're happy to help them in their quest," said Chen. "miinus.org is a free, fun way to help them reach their goals and ours."
