LateRooms.com can announce that people staying at London hotels may cast all thoughts of BBC soap Eastenders aside when they attend one festival celebrating the eastern area of London.

The six day event – simply titled East – will take place from March 4th until March 9th and there will be around 100 activities taking place across the East End to mark the occasion.

It is curated by the mayor of London and works with key cultural organisations, which is likely to mean that anyone who decides to go along will find themselves having plenty of fun.

This year, the spectacle is based around the themes of architecture, minimalism, travel and transport and the Asian sub-continent.

What is more, eager photographers will have the chance to take part in a special exhibition to form a "unique living picture" of the area, Visit London reports.

A competition conducted by the Big Issue and Rich Mix invites people to submit a photograph of a building in the area that they particularly cherish, with the winner and shortlist displayed in the Rich Mix Gallery for the duration of the festival.

People eager to pick up a few new threads while visiting London may want to pop into one of the many vintage stores on and around Brick Lane, such as Rokit and Beyond Retro.
