LateRooms.com can announce that people staying at hotels in Turin may want to take a trip to the coast and enjoy one event taking place in Genoa this spring.

The Garibaldi Tall Ships Regatta is organised by the Sail Training Council and this year marks the 150th anniversary of revolutionary leader Giuseppe Garibaldi's expedition from the Italian city to Trapani on the north-west corner of Sicily.

Between April 8th and 19th, the event invites ships from all over the world to participate in a race between the two locations and celebrate the historic journey to unify the new Kingdom of the Two Sicilies.

The fleet of sailing crafts will meet in Genoa before the action kicks off on April 11th.

Participants will then travel south in a bid to be the first to arrive in Trapani on April 16th, which is a town renowned for its seafood and traditional Italian cuisine, as well as being an important fishing hub.

According to organisers, "the main challenge of this race could be light and variable winds, but in April the weather is at least likely to be fairly warm".

Both ports offer a range of activities, exhibitions, concerts and entertainment for visitors and crew members to enjoy before and after they cheer on the competitors.

Jessica Reading, head of marketing for LateRooms, commented: "Demand for the Garibaldi Tall Ships Regatta is always significant and we recommend that anyone considering attending should book their hotel Torino as early as possible."
