LateRooms.com can reveal that anyone who has booked hotels in Salamanca next month but would like to see some of the cities in the surrounding area could be interested to hear about an art competition in Madrid.

Every year, Generaciones celebrates the creations of young, Spanish artists and offers 25 an opportunity to see their works hung in La Casa Encendida.

Prizes are awarded to the top three entries and a further ten will receive the accolade of an honourable mention from the judging panel.

Artworks can take any form, from paintings and photographs to sculptures and videos, offering visitors a truly eclectic mix of artistic talent.

Installations will be on show in Madrid from the beginning of February until the end of March, when the exhibition will then be toured to gain greater exposure for the artists involved.

People booking holidays to Salamanca may be glad to learn that the city is on the list of those to host the travelling art show.

Other stops will include Valladolid, Barcelona and Bilbao. This is the tenth year that the competition has been run by Obra Social Caja Madrid.

The journey from Salamanca to Madrid takes approximately two and a half hours by train and typically costs less than €20 (£17.30), gospain.com advises.
